About Emily Floyd

Floyds works significantly contribute to Melbourne’s cultural and creative reputation. Her work is better known as some of the most imposing large-scale public commissions along the East Link Art Trail. Most notable is the modernist-inspired blackbird contemplating a yellow worm arc. And who can forget the monumental sculpture standing sentry in Jackalopes forecourt on the mornington peninsula where crowds regularly gather to contemplate over this mythical abstracted jackrabbit with antelope horns.

The artist’s works are oriented towards the future and have particular emphasis on children as key viewing subjects. Inspired by her family’s toymaking past Floyd mixes toy-like forms and text to run commentary on contemporary social situations and issues at intersections between art, education and play.
