This is an iconic Dartington 'Panel and Spot' vase or candle holder in clear flint glass.
Designed in 1969 by Frank Thrower pattern number FT88, the vase has a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic.
The glassblowers at Dartington were trained by Scandinavian masters from Kosta and Orrefors and this is reflected in the style and technique of this vase
Features:
A hexagonal shaped body.
Each of the six faces has the same moulded stylised geometric pattern consisting of an embossed panel and a central circular knob moulded in relief.
The short, circular, plain neck broadens out to a flat galleried rim.
It can be used as a holder for a broad candle or a posy vase for sprigs or a small bunch of short stalked flowers.
About Frank Thrower
Frank Thrower is regarded as one of the most important British post-war glass designers. Self-taught, he became fascinated by modern glass while working for Ronald Stennett-Wilson's import company who were bringing in high quality Scandinavian glass into the British marketplace.
Thrower designed for Wedgwood as well as Dartington and his eye-catching designs soon garnered popularity for the way they introduced a cool and minimal Scandinavian aesthetic into British glassware.
